My Favorite Women in Video Games: Jill Valentine

Games she appeared in: If the title features the words Resident Evil, there is a good shot she appears and kicks ass in it.

Is she being rescued/saved as a key plot point: As a former member of S.T.A.R.S., Jill is a part of the elite few who have the skills and talent to save people from zombies. She doesn't wait for people to rescue her, she rescues herself.

For our video game BFF date, we would: Go on a international zombie hunting trip of intrigue.

While I love a good zombie movie as much as the next girl, the biggest mistake of the Resident Evil movie series was not focusing on their already established kick-ass heroine, Jill Valentine. Why try to improve on a character that is both a dedicated civil servant and the owner of a closet full of awesome commando uniforms?

A focal point of the video games, Jill starts off the series as a member of a special task force with the Raccoon City Police Department and transforms over the series into a top ranking agent in the secret security group that she co-founds. More importantly, she always stays a motivated thorn in the side of the Umbrella Corporation whose main commodities include evil and diseases that cause zombies.

What makes Jill one of my favorites is her one-woman drive to stop the horrible events of the series, but also her dedication to her party members in every game. Her friendship with Chris Redfield is one of the best (and only) platonic male/female relationships in games and carries through the entirety of the series. It takes a character that could be one-dimensional if handled wrong, and turns her into a fierce warrior willing to sacrifice herself for others.

And who wouldn't want to play that character?
