gadchick Welcomes you to the Kindle Family (Giveaway Closed)

I remember how exciting November 2007 was for me- I was proposed to by the man of my dreams and the I purchased Amazon’s very first Kindle. It was released a week before and as much as I anticipated my soon to be wedding, I couldn't wait to get my hands (and eyes) on the digital pages. I mean, what did digital pages look like? My mind was filled with imagination of what a Kindle could do. Little did I know this small gadget would change the way millions of people read.
The older Kindle at one point was a new shiny toy, but in the back of my head I echoed what first generation Kindle owners hated to admit- it was slow, bulky, and ugly. Fast forward four years later, the Kindle is smaller, and bigger (depending on if you want the DX). The new Kindle is improved- thinner, and more appealing, unlike your ex’s new liaison.

4th Gen Kindle is an upgrade from the first-gen Kindle. Why do people keep purchasing a Kindle rather than buying a fancy full color tablet with all the frills? The E-Ink is still a stronger statement for readers looking for just that- to read. There’s no distraction to check email, apps, and our tendency for touching colorful screens just for the thrill of it is lost for the thrill of reading. The price is right, the battery life lasts for weeks, and the size beats carrying a one heavy book when a library is in your pocket. The interface has been cleaned up, and there is now a 5-way controller. This particular Kindle has Wi-Fi and enabled free Hot Spots with AT&T. If you want a little more than E-Ink, there’s a variety of Kindle’s to choose from the Kindle family. Yes, four years later, there’s a Kindle family and Gadchick would love for one lucky reader to be a part of it.

Kindle Giveaway is open to reader worldwide, but before you enter, please check if Kindle Amazon is available in your area. What a bummer for you to have to get books from E-Pub!

  1. you guys! ahhhhhh! so exciting!i'd love to see things to make life easier - at work, school or at play - in action!it's hard to find honesty in the tech world - so many changes (and man-centered)... so if you guys can stay on top of the cool stuff and let us know what's up - that's awesome.and give recommendations! half the time i don't know what's what!so proud of you guys!

  2. Congrats on the new blog! It's so pretty. I can't wait to see what kind of content you're rolling out.I would love to get updates on photography-nerd type stuff. Digital cameras, apps, phones! Any gadget recommendations, tips or info that can help me take better photos on the go would be swell.

  3. chicks with gadgets! I'm totally on board with this!I'd love to see comparisons of new phones to older phones to verify if the price one pays for the newer phone is worth it. I recently purchased an android cell phone for over $300 dollars, and it was easily comparable to a $150 cell phone. The pricier one just looked a bit flashier. I will bookmark this website. I can't wait to see more of it! :)

  4. I think the one thing missing from the tech blog world is a breakdown of pros and cons of devices in layman's terms. Sure, I can Google specs and read reviews, but I don't care what the processor speed is or how many gigs of whatever it has and how many millions of songs that equals. I just want somebody to turn it on, and show me why it's so rad that I must immediately purchase it. That's how I bought my Droid. The Verizon salesperson talked me out of a Palm by showing me the Retrocam app. Bam. Sold.

  6. How exciting to write a blog. I look forward to reading you stats and ideas on new gadgets and read what's new in your life. Currently I am still in the dark ages of reading, book stores and libraries A Kindle is on my wish list for Christmas this year but with the new house coming I do not expect to get one. (sad)As far as suggestions go I think TVs and video games would be interesting. Most girls do not know the difference between plasmas vs LEDs, 3D vs regular (how much do those glasses cost?) and don't even get me started on how to hook one up. I love the idea behind this blog and look forward to reading your next post.

  7. As a school librarian (in training), I'm totally on board with the new blog in hopes to catch some great new gadgets. I'm such a tech nerd and I love some gadgets! I am in love with what you said in the "about" section about the pink Hello Kitty phone cases. Looking forward to real fresh information!

  8. I love your site! I also love the layout, I'd just add just a teensy bit of color. I love the teal and purple/pink combo, very classy! I'm a geeky nerd, so I'd love to hear all the new stuff going around :D.

  13. As a girl & a gamer, the one place I tend to get my info is G4tv (Attack of the Show, X-play) so having a blog dedicated to women would be nice. It will also be nice in sharing with others via social media, texting, email, etc. And the section for mommies is a nice touch. I am a first-time mom to a 16 month old toddler & I don't know what I'm doing half the time. LOL

  14. I am so glad to see a technology-focused blog created by and for women. I am a technophile to say the least, but I do not own many gadgets. I would love to see a section or focus on DIY electronics (maybe gadgets that provide assistance for DIY projects). For me, this stuff is difficult to come by, but I am so interested in creating things for myself. Thanks for the giveaway, and best of luck on the new blog! I look forward to following it.

  24. I'm never been much for keeping up with blogs, but this sounds like one that could make it to my lonely Favorites Bar!I love reading about any and all gadgets, but most of the hottest gadgets don't come in girly colors! It'd be cool to see something posted every now and then about cheap skins, sticker-type covers, or even how you can modify (on a budget) your gadgets to make them cuter-- the way we used to go crazy with stick-on gems and phone straps.I'd also love to see some honest tablet reviews, too! There are wayy too many to choose from!

  25. I'm another photography geek, so I'd love reviews and tips on cameras, lenses, accessories, software, etc. Thanks for the chance to win!

  27. I'm not a super high tech kinda girl but I'd love to see what apps are new and useful, tips for buying a point and shoot camera, and cell phone reviews. Congrats on the new blog & thanks for the opportunity to win :)

  28. i love all of the suggestions that everyone has already stated, but i would also like to see some "real life" elements thrown in.... something along the lines of "how (insert gadget name here) makes my life better" or seeing blog posts about how business ladies & students & everyone in between uses their technology and how it enhances their everyday lives...does that make sense? people are using technology in new ways every day that i would have never thought of!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'd like info on photography gadgets and video games. I love a good game but a lot of times they are full-out he-man dreams. I love a good story with puzzles. Bioshock is my absolute favorite game and I look forward to Bioshock Infinite to come out next year.Good luck with your new endeavor!

  30. I've been waiting for the site to launch since your recent announcement - congrats!I'd love to see product reviews that integrate home/work/life in various aspects that don't define me as "one type of woman." By this I mean a place that includes a good variety of market-scapes. I'd like to be free to enjoy some make up, a career that includes writing words longer than two syllables while still getting to be someone who enjoys family and relationships. The very few blogs I've stumbled upon that have any gadget info seem to limit me to one or the other. I'm either in an OMG HELLO KITTY PINK bonanza, a matronly, kid centered stay-at-home playscape who couldn't possibly be intelligent (do you know how many of my friends enjoy staying home with their children who could kick my behind in intellect on any given day?!) or, finally, a corporate, pants suit wearing bull in a China shop. Just because we're at one point of our lives or another or because we've decided to focus choices towards a particular path does not mean we are limited, uninterested or lack intelligence. I'd love it if tech sites with "women's sections" stopped treating us as such. I'm excited about where you'll take this! Good luck.

  35. I would love to see articles on cable management. I'm a multimedia student so I have at least a million things plugged into a hub that is plugged into my laptop. It absolutely drives me insane. I have tried winding things around special windy things and using velcro and the like to keep it organized but it just isn't working! Or, maybe just articles by multimedia/graphic designers or digital filmmakers/artists or audio techs on how they keep their workspace clean despite all the technology they have to constantly keep plugging into their computers or laptops. Thanks!

  36. I'd like to see different women from different careers profiled to see what gadgets they're using and why. Awesome giveaway! I'm looking forward to reading the blog regularly!

  41. First of all, congratulations on the launch of the blog! How exciting!I skimmed through some of the the comments & I have to say there are some great suggestions! My boyfriend looooves video games, but I can't seem to get into any of the ones he's into. I'd love to hear reviews on some of your favourite games. Maybe we can find one we can both play, so I don't just sit there watching, haha.

  42. Hurray loving this site already! :DI'm a gamer girl, my fianc is a gamer and our son is growing up with an understanding of how to use my iPhone and iPad. He's nearly 2 years old and already knows how to unlock the iPad, make the screen move, open apps, close apps and also knows how to use the keyboard (I've had a few random messages sent to me via iMessage from my son!) but what I'd like to see is more on parental controls on consoles and PCs. I have a very good understanding on these but I am fully aware that many do not and it's concerning that kids can find a way of buying or renting a game over their age and playing it even behind their parents' backs. Also love to see some slightly girly-er stuff... maybe how to make gamer style cupcakes? Love cupcakes and I love the xbox! ;)

Would love to see gadgets that help with stuff we do: cook (lots of cooking gagdets I'd like to hear more about); keep the family together (calendar, medical history, medical research); shopping (perhaps there's a bar code scanning app that's actually useful, find me coupons); lifehacker-type articles geared to women; crafting (there are lots of craft gadgets - and tough to find real reviews on them).
